The Vibe

A very family oriented community that enjoys the fine qualities that Scarborough Junction has to offer such as affordable housing, a vibrant shopping experience along Eglinton and an ever growing expedient access to downtown Toronto.

The Story

Bordered by Birchmont Road to Brimley Road and Eglinton Avenue to St. Clair Avenue is the neighbourhood to the east called Scarborough, also known as Kennedy Park. In the 1850s, Scarborough was dedicated farming land that also became home to many European settlers. In 1873, the railroads were laid and the intersection of what we know today as Victoria Park and St. Clair became a trading and transportation post. The change from farming land to supporting travellers and railway workers was one that would change the dynamics of this once small town farmland. The need for increased Scarborough real estate grew as the population rose. As the population grew the commercial buildings, health buildings and community centres were built to satisfy the need for necessities. Although the community is constantly in transition, its growing population has been the catalyst for increased infrastructure and improvements.

The Convenience

Affordable housing has always been the attraction to the Scarborough area. There you will see many apartment complexes, small bungalows, semi-detached homes and single homes that date back to the 1940s. There are pockets of strip plazas with a variety of different amenities such as grocery stores and restaurants.  Along Eglinton Avenue, you can find a shopping district that consists of sports bars, restaurants, medical offices and much more. The Mid Scarborough Community Centre has a variety of programs for everyone of all ages which also has a convention centre for community events. There are several small parks located in pockets throughout Scarborough for children to play. The location is ideal as it takes only 20 minutes to get downtown by car. There is an excellent transit system that allows for easy access to and from Scarborough.

The Residents

Scarborough is comprised of working-class families, as the area is family oriented and the affordable housing offers a very attractive option.

The Best Part

The best part of Scarborough is Scarborough Bluffs which is an escarpment that draws people in from everywhere. The "Bluffs" has a public park with an elevated meadow that offers spectacular views and a sandy lower beach with picnic areas.
