The Vibe

Laid back yet trendy, known for its charming streets and of course, the adundance of greenspace that is Riverdale Park (with arguably one of the best skyline views in the city).

The Story

Riverdale was actually known as Riverside up until 1884 when the area was annexed by the city. The area was originally home to Toronto’s labour force, who built the signature row homes that still line the beautiful streets. Riverdale actually holds some celebrity status - the famed Canadian teen dramas The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, and Degrassi: The Next Generation were all named after (you guessed it) Degrassi Street.

But don't take Riverdale's fame to mean that the neighbourhood is anything but laid back. Riverdale real estate is effortlessly cool and relaxed, with tons of charming cafes, shops and restaurants lining the Queen East strip. Outdoor aficionados can get their fix thanks to Riverdale park, which features three multipurpose sports fields, baseball diamonds, a running track, tennis courts, an artificial outdoor ice rink and ball hockey pad. There are even picnic areas and children's playground!

In terms of arts and culture, the newly opened Broadview Hotel a neighbourhood has become a busy hotspot for both locals and visitors. Just down the street you'll find The Opera House, a popular venue for cultural events and concerts.

The Convenience

The Queen and Dundas streetcars make it easy to zip into downtown, east to the beaches, or north to The Danforth. Easy access out of the city is provided by the DVP. The Gerrard Square shopping centre is home to a Walmart, Food Basics, Home Depot, Winners and more, making running multiple errands at once a breeze.

The Residents

The demographic makeup of this friendly community is predominantly middle-class working-age individuals, with Riverdale real estate featuring both single and family-based households. A welcome refresh from the hustle of the downtown core that resides just minutes away, the vibe is relaxed but not “sleepy” in any way - there’s so much to do in this area!

The Best Part

It’s a tie between having access to the gorgeous Riverdale Park, and Toronto’s coolest rooftop patios at the Broadview Hotel.
