Living in Liberty Village: One of Our Favourites | Christine Cowern Team

| Communities

Liberty Village is one of the most unique neighbourhoods in the city. Not only does it hold some incredible history, it’s managed to become one of the fastest developed areas of Toronto while still preserving many of its gorgeous 100+ year old buildings. Pair that with the convenience of having nearly every amenity at your fingertips, and we’d have to argue that for the busy urbanite, living in Liberty Village might be one of the best places to call home.

A variety of shops and restaurants, multiple fitness centres, and plenty of residential buildings to choose from makes living in Liberty Village incredibly convenient. Your daily errands are all within walking distance, and getting downtown (our out of town!) is easy. We’ve rounded up some of the reasons that make this such an amazing neighbourhood to live in, and if you think there’s anything we’re missing please let us know in the comments!

The Food Scene

We aren’t kidding when we say that living in Liberty Village gives you access to literally EVERY type of food. Lovers of all things kale and kimchi can get their fix from Freshii and Live Organic Food Bar, which offers ultra-healthy grocery items as well. For social gatherings, there are plenty of pubs to meet up with friends or watch the hockey game. The appropriately named Local Public Eatery offers great food and daily drink specials, and beer connoisseurs can try the latest on tap at Big Rock Brewery and The Three Brewers.

We can’t forget everyone’s favourite daily fuel, coffee. Whether you’re looking to grab a quick cup from Tim’s or cozy up for an afternoon work session at Balzac’s, living in Liberty Village means you have access to multiple cafes within minutes of each other. School Cafe deserves a mention here as well, as they serve up some of the most drool-worthy brunch creations in the city along with coffee and baked goods.

And of course, no neighbourhood would feel like home without its quick and dirty takeout spots. Liberty Shawarma, Smoke’s Poutinerie, Thai Room and Fat Bastard Burrito to name a few. Or, if you’re more of the do-it-yourself type, there’s a 24 hour Metro that caters to your midnight meal inspirations.

The Design Scene

It’s difficult not to have an Apartment Therapy worthy pad when some of the best names in home goods are just around the corner! Whether your taste is modern or traditional and regardless of your budget, there’s plenty to choose from to reflect your personal style within your space. Looking to put together the ultimate place setting, or up your bedlinen game? Head over to West Elm, even if it’s just to window shop. This stunning retail space situated in a former warehouse boasts beautiful displays that are sure to inspire your home makeover.

Canadian based CasaLife and EQ3 offer an option to shop local AND create a stylish living space, and you can’t argue with that! For the budget-conscious, Structube provides everything from dining tables to couches, and even accessories in both contemporary and classic styles. And, bonus – it’s also Canadian! Here, you’ll find everything from live edge dining tables to iconic Eames-style chairs (without the whopping price tag).

The Work Scene

Toronto has earned its tagline as “Silicon Valley North”, and for good reason. Our startup scene easily rivals those of other large North American cities, and living in Liberty Village allows you to experience this growing sector first hand. Big time anchors like Cineplex, Softchoice, and Kobo are neighbours to new generation tech companies like BHive Social Media Lab and Brainbox. There’s even a co-working centre (Fueling Station) for freelancers and entrepreneurs to rent space on a monthly basis.

With so many incredible businesses setting their roots here, the networking opportunities are virtually endless. Plus, who doesn’t love being in the heart of something new and exciting? Liberty Village residents, both professionally and socially, get to experience this entrepreneurial vibe first hand. And if you happen to currently work or land a gig at one of the many awesome companies that reside here, the commute to work will be a total breeze! Also, the commute from Liberty Village to Downtown is super easy!

So tell us, do you love living in Liberty Village? If so, what makes it great to you? Even better, if you’re looking to call it home, you’re in the right place. Send us a message and we’ll help you track down the perfect pad!
